Lilla Robert’s – a small pearl in the centre of Helsinki
We had made plans for this summer well in advance. We had cause for celebration: our 10th wedding anniversary and retirement. We were going to head to Wales and Scotland, the dates had been set and hotel reservations made. Then came the Covid-19 pandemia and everything was cancelled. We were upset and disappointed, of course, but then decided to just stay at home and make short trips in Finland.
On one of these trips we went to the capital, Helsinki. We wanted to go to the first live gig of the singing group Rajaton at Allas Sea Pool and make a small sight-seeing cruise around the Helsinki archipelago. The hotel had to be within walking distance of the Market Square, right in the heart of Helsinki. That is how we came across Hotel Lilla Robert’s, very conveniently situated nearby, at Pikku Roobertin street (Little Robert’s street).
In addition to the great location, the hotel offers friendly service, spacious rooms and a lovely Art Deco-styled decoration. Animal motifs, typical of Art Deco, were used a lot, and we started to look out for them. You could not miss the life-size horse in the lobby but there were also animal table lamps, wallpapers, shower wall and even coffee cups at breakfast. The black, white and gold-coloured room with geometrical motifs was stylish and beautiful.
All the major sights are within walking distance and we took the opportunity to visit the huge open-air restaurant at Senate square and listened to music at the bandstand in Esplanandi Park. After the early morning visit to the hotel gym, the blueberry shot, fresh peas and pancakes at breakfast tasted good.
Although we were not abroad, the visit to the capital was a welcome little holiday for us country folks. When travelling is again possible, we can recommend this lovely hotel in Helsinki!
